The Open Lock Project takes place on two custom-built residential narrow boats in Trafford, Greater Manchester.
It offers activities for local disadvantaged young people who are facing exclusion from school, have no qualifications and suffer emotional behaviour difficulties or low self-esteem. The scheme helps them build new skills and offers support through their transition into adulthood.
David Barton, the project's team leader, said: "Young people will be able to access a unique type of support and opportunity on the local waterways through the Open Lock Project.
"They will be given a fantastic opportunity to explore new environments, learn new skills and broaden their horizons."
