Ministers promised to launch a youth week to celebrate young people's achievements in its Aiming High for Young People strategy, which was published earlier this year.
The idea for the youth week was taken from Australia and would also be used to foster more positive perceptions of young people.
A Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) spokesman said officials would present options to ministers in spring 2008. It is believed the DCSF could take over The National Youth Agency's Youth Work Week as part of the move.
Last week the NYA announced its week would be based around the theme of giving young people increasing powers to make decisions about youth provision, including spending. The week is due to take place from 1 to 7 November 2008.
