
Respondents to the government's consultation on youth sector support arrangements said there is no need to slim down the number of agencies, but there is a lack of clarity in the existing set up.
The government's summary of responses to the consultation, published last week, revealed calls for better co-ordination of agencies such as The National Youth Agency and the National Council for Voluntary Youth Services. The responses also pressed for a clearer division of responsibilities between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and sector support organisations and for central government to be more efficient in funding these organisations.
Susie Roberts, chief executive of the Association of Principal Youth & Community Officers, said she was not surprised people were confused by the DCSF's approach to funding. "The last round of the Youth Sector Development Fund was particularly complex and difficult and a lot of organisations that previously received funding didn't get it," she said.
