Youth Strategy: Northern Ireland groups want funds to back plans

Our Children and Young People - Our Pledge Action Plan 2007-8 is made up of 160 action points and includes the lead department and delivery partners for each, as well as indicators of success.

Plans include the development of a scheme to maintain universal youth services while targeting specific youth services to vulnerable young people under the banner "Priorities for Youth".

A play policy for 12- to 18-year-olds will be developed by June 2008 and a charter for youth justice in Northern Ireland will be published next month.

Pauline Leeson, director of Children in Northern Ireland, said: "It seems that some departments such as health and education are clearer on their responsibilities for children than other departments. The plan should include targets of success and there needs to be a clear funding strategy."
