Youth Strategy: Decision imminent about youth week

A decision is expected in the next month about the feasibility of holding a National Youth Week, according to the recently released Aiming High Implementation Plan.

A sub-group has been brought together to explore the benefits of a week to celebrate the achievements of young people.

The implementation plan outlines how the government intends to achieve the goals of Aiming High, which last summer set out its vision for improved services for young people. The strategy document also confirmed that the government was in advanced discussions with youth hostel organisation YHA about continuing the Do it 4 Real programme over the next year. This scheme provides 10- to 16-year-olds with the chance to take part in subsidised summer camps.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has pledged to spend £679m to implement the 55 commitments made in the strategy.
