Youth work millions available from May

1 min read Youth Work
Youth organisations will be able to bid for cash for services in May, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has revealed in its Aiming High Implementation Plan.

The document, published last week, aims to keep youth workers up to date with how the 10-year youth strategy is being put in place.

It reveals the extra £160m to be invested in youth facilities, as outlined in The Children's Plan in December, will be available for bidding at the beginning of May. However, the plan says all bids must demonstrate the participation of young people and genuine partnership between public and voluntary or private sector organisations.

The guide emphasises the need to combat negative press reports about young people and reveals that the DCSF has set up an Empowerment Stakeholder Working Group to offer advice on the delivery of commitments in the plan to change perceptions of young people. These include holding a youth week to celebrate young people's achievements and establishing a number of pilots to explore how young people can design and organise events to mark their transition to adulthood.
