The Conservative Party has pledged to end central government requirements for youth projects to deliver learning outcomes for young people.
Shadow education secretary Tim Collins said the requirement was driving young people away from youth services: "The Government is increasingly requiring all such activities to have a 'learning outcome', which is driving young people away because they are simply looking for a safe place where they can go to relax."
Charles Hendry, the shadow minister for young people, added that the plan links into the party's policy to devolve power to local authorities.
"If local authorities want to fund projects with learning outcomes that's up to them, but we believe central government should not direct this," he said.
