The Conservative Party's recent statement that it would "remove the requirement that leisure facilities for young people must produce a learning outcome" has struck a chord in some quarters.
The youth worker who commented on one internet message board that "it's a great reason to vote Tory" had his tongue firmly in cheek, but it underlines the fact that the policy tunes into some dissatisfaction with a perceived focus on measurable and accredited outcomes.
The policy decision was announced by shadow education secretary Tim Collins, who said the Government was "driving young people away" from youth provision through its policy focus on learning outcomes (YPN, 3-9 November, p4).
