The National Youth Agency's annual audit has provided a snapshot of local authority youth spending as service integration gathers momentum. Joe Lepper examines the key findings and discovers there is still room for improvement across England.

The latest results from The National Youth Agency's audit of council youth services in England should be a source of great pride to youth workers, says the organisation's chief executive Fiona Blacke.

Outcomes for young people in the year 2006/07 improved at a marked rate, with 63 councils now hitting the government target of six out of 10 young people getting a recorded outcome, compared to just 49 the previous year.

In terms of accredited outcomes - such as completing a nationally recognised course run by, among others, the Prince's Trust - 39 councils are now meeting or exceeding the government's target that 30 per cent of young people achieve this.
