The number of full-time staff working in council youth services in 2007/08 fell by around 10 per cent, the National Youth Agency's (NYA) annual audit of local authorities has found.

The number of full-time staff working in council youth services in 2007/08 fell by around 10 per cent, the National Youth Agency's (NYA) annual audit of local authorities has found.

An average of 46.5 full-time equivalent staff were employed per council, compared to 51 in 2006/07.

However, the number of local authorities responding to the audit of dropped by nearly a fifth from 149 to 121. Ross Little, senior information officer at the NYA said: "We are all aware that local authority youth services have been going through a period of change so we were encouraged by the number of responses we received."
