Youth services: Sunderland council to hand over reins

1 min read

The changes mean that youth work in Sunderland will be carried out entirely by the voluntary sector, with one voluntary organisation responsible for delivering work in each of the city's 11 areas.

Another two voluntary organisations will take on responsibility for city-wide work in the fields of sport and leisure, and ethnic minority projects.

One of the voluntary organisations to be contracted to run services in one of the 11 areas is The Box Youth Project.

The council will maintain several core roles, including training and accreditation, quality assurance, capacity building, youth participation and administration. The youth development group's full-time staff have been rearranged into teams to co-ordinate these areas of work.
