YOUTH SERVICES: Information sharing moves to the next stage

Some 133 local councils have been given 100,000 each to develop IRT, based on the experience of 10 Trailblazer authorities which were given 10m to set up systems.

The guidance, issued by the Children and Young People's Unit, has a range of deadlines for local authorities. Eight must be met by the end of next month.

By September, councils must prove they have engaged with all children's services on the development of IRT.

In the foreword, Margaret Hodge, minister for children and young people, admitted: "There is confusion about what can and cannot be legally shared. This has led to reluctance among some professionals to pass on personal data."
