YOUTH SERVICE: Leading Government figures call for more youthinvestment

In a joint letter, they call on council leaders and lead education members to ensure that the 5.9 per cent increase in central Government funding for youth services, set out in a youth and community sub-block under the education spending formula, is actually spent on youth work.

The move follows the launch in December of the Resourcing Excellent Youth Services document, which for the first time sets out the standards the Government expects council youth services to meet. Clarke and Beecham say in their letter: "It is important that you ensure your service is well funded and that you focus on the quality and range of your service."
