Guidelines for councils from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), which is leading the Homes for Ukraine scheme, lists supporting parents to apply for school and childcare places, safeguarding and welfare checks, and providing advice and referrals to specialist public services include mental health services and children’s services, as among the responsibilities of often overstretched and underfunded local authorities to help families adapt to life in the UK.
