Youth services and organisations supporting vulnerable children have rallied together to provide holistic support for young refugees arriving from Ukraine as well as support for youth workers dealing with potentially challenging situations.
Access to youth services is “crucial” for young people arriving in the UK from Ukraine in terms of both safeguarding and in helping them to adapt to life in a new country, says councillor Anntoinette Bramble, chair of the Local Government Association’s children and young people’s board.
Having access to somewhere “where they can make new friends and forge new relationships, to help them settle in,” is key to adapting to life away from Ukraine, she adds.
