YOUTH POLICY: Parliamentary bills get mixed reaction

Many of the measures within the children's bill will be based on ideas in the Every Child Matters green paper. Bills on the child trust fund scheme and domestic violence are also planned.

Powers to put the children of failed asylum seekers into care to encourage them to leave the country are to be included in an asylum and immigration bill.

While youth organisations gave the child trust fund bill, children's bill and domestic violence bill a positive response, the asylum bill sparked outrage.

Rona Blackwood, assistant programme director for refugees at Save the Children, said: "The asylum bill is yet another disgraceful attempt to isolate refugee children. This is unreasonable, inhumane and a breach of fundamental human rights."
