Youth Justice: Youth offending work lacks visibility

Youth offending teams came bottom of the list when the study asked people about their knowledge of the various agencies within the criminal justice system. This low awareness correlated with a low level of confidence in their work. Knowledge about prisons and the police was found to be high.

A spokeswoman at the Youth Justice Board said: "It is important that the public has faith in the system. Youth offending teams need to include the community in their work through youth offender panels, for example, so it is important that they keep the public informed of the work they are doing."
