Youth justice: Youth justice bill poised for October

1 min read

The bill, which will increase the use of community sentences for juvenile offenders, has received cabinet approval, according to the sources.

The Home Office would not confirm the timing, but a spokesman said the department was keen to push ahead with a bill, despite its absence from the Queens Speech. He said: Plans are afoot. I wouldnt say that there will definitely be one, but our intention is to publish one.

The bill will be based on the draft youth justice bill introduced in the 2004/05 parliamentary session, but might include aspects of the management of offenders bill, which was mentioned in the Queens Speech, but has not been published.
