Teresa Goulding, ISSP co-ordinator across Southend and Thurrock Youth Offending Teams, said: Southend Youth Offending Team set up an allotment project, and the idea grew from there. Theyve had a lot of interest in it.
The group will be made up of 12- to 17-year-olds deemed at risk of offending, who are in contact with the ISSP or one of the youth offending teams. They have applied for a grant from The Princes Trust to help fund the garden, which is likely to be based around bonsai trees.
As well as building the garden, the group is also being accredited for the work, and will be able to get an ASDAN award for horticulture.
