The Greenacres Youth Inclusion Project will teach 15 officers from Greater Manchester Police about youth issues and the techniques youth workers use.
The exercise, thought to be the first case of a youth inclusion project offering training to the police, will take place on 25 June.
Susan Hamlin, project worker, said the training day would help youth workers and the police to "sing from the same hymn sheet".
"Our young people are quite cynical about the police," said Hamlin. "They see them as just being there to lock them up." She said the training would start to "break down some barriers" and will be expanded.
