Oldham Youth Inclusion Project aimed to create awareness of knife crime.

Project: Oldham Youth Inclusion Project

Funding: £170,000 a year, part funded by the Youth Justice Board and the local community

Aim: To make a positive difference and prevent young people from reoffending

Young people have laid out the vision for a new anti-knife campaign after taking part in a six-week project staged in Oldham. As part of the project, six young people from the Hathershaw and Fitton Hall area took part in intensive sessions with staff at Oldham's Youth Inclusion Project (YIP).

Having been identified as at risk of getting involved with knife crime, the group members took part in intensive two-hour sessions for six weeks. They were given information and statistics on knife crime as well as taking part in discussions around why young people carry weapons. They also designed a poster that has now been mass-produced and placed around the town to tackle knife crime.
