Youth Justice: Home Office split enables YJB move

Rob Allen, director of the International Centre for Prison Studies, King's College London, renewed his calls for the move.

The Government is considering splitting the Home Office into a ministry of justice and a ministry for national security.

The Home Office said youth justice would be expected to sit in the justice ministry. Allen said: "They would need to ensure the provision that relates to children under the age of 18 is properly taken into account."

Tim Bateman, senior youth crime development officer at crime reduction charity Nacro, said the proposed split would raise questions on the role of the police in tackling youth crime.
