Youth Justice: Conviction ASBOs help cost cuts

A Government report published earlier this year showed the average cost of obtaining an order had fallen from 4,800 in 2002 to 2,500. But Chris Stanley, head of youth policy at Nacro, said: We think that is because there are many more Crasbos (criminal antisocial behaviour orders) being made, and they are cheap.

Home Office data shows 4,649 ASBOs were issued between April 1999 and December 2004, of which 2,057 were given to 10- to 17-year-olds. Its report, the Cost of Antisocial Behaviour Orders, shows Crasbos are cheaper. A standalone ASBO costs an average of 3,200, compared with 900 for a Crasbo.
