Youth Custody: Call for inquiry into youth prison death

Labour MP Hilton Dawson made the call as crime-reduction charity Nacro and legal charity Inquest renewed their calls for an inquiry into Joseph's death.

"It is extraordinary that the Government should refuse a public inquiry," said Dawson. "Make this a general election issue. The Home Secretary is accountable as an elected member of Parliament."

Lord Dholakia, president of Nacro, said: "There are issues of policy that no inquest can cover in the way a public inquiry could. We will not let go until an inquiry is achieved." Lord Dholakia said he would raise a debate in the House of Lords "centred on the Home Secretary's reluctance to have a public inquiry".
