Youth club bodies merger back on

The reopening of merger talks between the two largest youth club membership bodies has been greeted warmly by the voluntary youth sector.

Clubs for Young People and UK Youth have written to their members toinform them of the latest discussions after talks between theorganisations broke down at the end of 2008. In a statement, Clubs forYoung People said the two charities are "keeping an open mind on how farthese discussions might lead".

Clubs for Young People started as the National Association of Boys'Clubs in 1925 and currently boasts a network of 3,500 clubs and youthprojects. UK Youth began life as the National Organisation of Girls'Clubs 100 years ago and claims to work with more than 7,000 youth clubsand groups. Both provide a range of support to youth club members,including offering staff training.
