The enablers, who have undergone initial training, comprise 19 experts on play from a wide range of backgrounds, including "play guru" Bob Hughes, co-ordinator of play work training organisation PlayEducation, and Tim Gill, former director of the Children's Play Council.
They are an initiative of Play England, a project launched in March by the Children's Play Council to provide advice and support to local authorities and their partners in developing play strategies.
The recruits will act as troubleshooters, travelling to the areas struggling the most. The level of need will be determined by Play England's regional managers, who are in direct contact with most local authorities.
