Play: 124m Lottery fund open for business

The long-awaited Lottery fund for children's play is now open for business.

Yesterday (28 March) saw the launch of the multi-million pound fundingprogramme for England.

Councils and their partners will receive application packs and guidancefrom the Big Lottery Fund so they can apply for their share of 124m.

The Children's Play Council also launched its Play England project witha dedicated web site and advice line.

"It's a big milestone for us," said the council's director AdrianVoce.

The play council was awarded 15m over five years to develop aregional infrastructure for play. The organisation will supportauthorities to apply for Lottery cash and work with existing agencies todevelop the infrastructure, which will include nine regionaloffices.

Funding bids must be supported with play strategies. The play councilhas published a best-practice guide, which it is sending to allauthorities and will be on the web site.
