YOUNG PEOPLE'S RIGHTS: Personal advisers given legal training

1 min read

Based at the University of Essex, the centre received 91,401 from Connexions for the yearlong project in Essex. As well as receiving training, personal advisers will be able to access lawyers and legal advice through a helpline, get legal toolkits, and access materials from the organisation's web site.

Carolyn Hamilton, director of the Children's Legal Centre, said: "There is a big demand from personal advisers for specialist legal advice. Connexions provides awareness training in terms of data protection and child protection.

But personal advisers need help on how to resolve issues too."

The centre is recruiting a manager for the project, which will have an inclusion advocacy arm to give support in schools for young people and their parents with regard to legal issues.
