Connexions: Report says personal advisers fail the disabled

Disabled young people, including those with physical disabilities and those on the autistic spectrum, questioned by the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities said their expectations are not being met.

They claimed there is no clear strategy for helping them and they are poorly represented on consultation forums. They also described the skills of personal advisers as "patchy".

The co-ordinator of the Developing Connexions report, Nic Rowland-Crosby, said: "There isn't the same priority attached to supporting disabled young people as there is on cutting back on the number of people not in education, employment or training. Resources are directed to where performance is measured."
