Young Offenders: Lambeth to target teenage girls

Rises in crime committed by teenage girls is to be challenged by a new youth justice initiative.

The Lambeth Youth Inclusion Programme is setting up the Sister2Sisterproject in response to the increasing number of girls getting intotrouble in the south London borough.

Paula Bryan, senior service manager at the Rainer-run programme, said:"One of the changes we've noticed during the last four-and-a-half yearsis the growing number of young women being referred to us."

The new project is based on an existing programme calledBrother2Brother, which provides support to young men who are involved inor likely to commit crime. It will be piloted for six weeks with youngwomen from the deprived Coldharbour Estate. The young women whoSister2Sister will help will be consulted before the project launches.
