Project to target violent young men

1 min read Youth Justice
Teenage perpetrators of domestic violence are to be offered support in one of the first projects of its kind.

The Lambeth Council pilot project will work with young people aged under 18 and will be run by youth support workers and other youth professionals from the London borough. The support group will focus on young men who abuse their mothers or girlfriends.

Ira Campbell, targeted youth support manager at Lambeth Council, said the programme would involve workshops to help the young men understand why their actions were wrong and to establish whether they had been victims of domestic abuse.

"We will do one-to-one work to begin with and then move into group work when the young men are ready," he said. "Some young people are too vulnerable for group work right from the beginning."
