Toolkit to tackle violent behaviour

Youth Work
Domestic violence charity Respect is developing a toolkit to help youth workers dealing with teenagers who are violent in relationships.

Respect has secured funding from Comic Relief and the Department for Children, Schools and Families to develop the resource. A pilot will take place next year to test out techniques in the resource before a UK-wide release in 2010.

Kate Iwi, young people's services development officer at Respect, said: "We have identified a real need in the youth sector for support to address issues of violence in relationships. This includes what they call in the US 'dating violence' but also violence against family members, particularly mothers."

Techniques being piloted include narrative therapy, group work and anger management programmes. A tender process for prospective pilot sites closes on 12 September.
