Feltham Visitors' Centre Association, the charity that ran the centre, was forced to make the move after failing to reach agreement with the west London prison over the future running of the service.
The centre, which has been running for 14 years, aimed to improve the visiting experience for children and families. It had been praised by the Chief Inspector of Prisons, even when much else was failing at the prison.
Action for Prisoners' Families said no decision had been taken by the prison over whether the centre would be forced to close permanently.
Director Lucy Gampell said: "Our main concern is for the welfare of families visiting Feltham, many of whom have very young children with them. Families and children need a safe and caring environment and to be treated with dignity and respect."
