Although the board has been overseeing the custodial placement of mostyoung offenders, the Prison Service has remained in charge of handlingserious juvenile criminals such as murderers and rapists.
The change will mean staff at the Prison Service's Section 53/92 unit,which handled the custodial placements of serious juvenile offenders,will be moved over to the board.
A spokeswoman for the board said that the change would aid the work ofyouth offending teams because young offenders would receive placementsquicker, therefore minimising disruption.
