Young care leavers plan survival skills

1 min read Social Care
Care leavers in the London Borough of Lambeth are taking lessons to prepare themselves for independent living.

Eight care leavers came up with the project as a way to improve their skills for life after living in care.

They have organised everything for the project, including writing the project brief, gaining approval from the corporate parenting board, preparing the funding application and organising the plans for the courses.

Through the project the young people will attend workshops covering practical skills such as cooking and budgeting.

One of the care leavers who came up with the idea said: "We felt it was very important for Lambeth to provide something that was a bit more structured so young people can get the information they need."
