The Youth Justice Board's Key Elements of Effective Practice, an updated version of a series published in 2002, covers two themes that have not been previously addressed: engaging young people who offend and acccommodation.
The other eight themes covered in the manuals are: assessment; planning interventions and supervision; education, training and employment; mental health; parenting; restorative justice; substance misuse; and young people who sexually abuse.
Recommendations include youth offending teams advocating for young people who need housing suitable to their age, gender, culture, maturity and family support. The manuals also say training and education interventions should consider young people's ethnicity, disability and special education needs.
