The move, which could save the YJB more than £200,000 a year, comes on the back of concerns raised over the high cost of employing chief information officer Mike Mackay, responsible for the Wiring Up Youth Justice programme.
In July, CYP Now reported that the cost of Mackay, including his wages, expenses, agency fees and VAT, runs to 10 times that of a youth offending team worker. In the past three years he has cost the taxpayer around £1m.
A YJB spokesman said the new permanent chief information officer salary will be in line with the YJB's pay structure, although the exact grade is yet to be determined.
