YJB set to pool youth offending records into children's database

1 min read Youth Justice
The Youth Justice Board has been given 1m by the government to link up youth offending team records with England's national children's database.

The money from the Department for Children, Schools and Families will pay for technical changes to the ContactPoint system to allow the records to link up.

The YJB is taking a direct lead in making the necessary adjustments to its Youth Offending Information Service database to allow the systems to share data.

In addition, Bury Council has been in charge of making the Careworks system link up effectively. Careworks is used by a number of councils in the north west of England and contains a wider range of care data, including youth offending information.

Phil Sutton, the YJB's head of business change, said: "Being linked up to ContactPoint means that youth offending teams will be able to access information from different boroughs much more easily and at the same time other agencies will be able to access their data. The crucial thing is to make sure the system is simple to use so teams are inputting data into just one system rather than many."
