Workshops for local authorities

Social Care
Qualifications body, Asdan, is to teach local authority staff how to run courses that help looked-after young people.

Asdan was given £9,000 by the Leeds Educational Trust to offer training workshops to five local authorities. The body runs accredited courses, such as the certificate of personal effectiveness, that teach looked-after young people a range of skills.

Tim Leaman, development co-ordinator for non-formal education awards at Asdan, said: "This money will give young people access to Asdan qualifications which aim to raise their life chances and educational outcomes."

Asdan will be taking expressions of interest from councils until the end of the month.
