This new course reflects the extensive learning from two peer sex education projects run in Sheffield with support from the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health. Sexual health promotion specialist Liz Murray explains: "There's been a city-wide project running for three years in Sheffield that has drawn young people from youth centres and schools and trained them to deliver sex and relationship education with other young people. There have also been two Sheffield sixth forms that have developed a peer approach within their own schools.
"We felt we'd learned a lot supporting this work and that we had useful models to share, along with ideas, activities and resources. We trawled around other agencies and while there are a lot of manuals for sexual health peer education we struggled to find courses."
