Working parents: Tory proposals for fathers welcomed

A fathers' rights charity has welcomed a proposal by Conservative leader David Cameron to offer tax breaks to dads so they can stay at home to look after their children.

Cameron revealed the initiative during a visit to Sweden, which has asimilar policy. An allowance would be paid to the lower earner, encouraging the partner with the bigger income to give up work. In nineof out 10 UK homes, this would be the father.

John Baker, chair of Families Need Fathers, applauded the sentiment butsaid he was "not so sure on technicalities". Baker added: "I certainlythink fathers need to be given the financial opportunity to spend timewith their children."
