Partnership for Young London has been awarded 30,000 by the Children's Workforce Development Council to appoint a training and workforce development officer who will write the strategy. It will cover all areas of work with young people, including advice and guidance and social care, and will focus on areas such as career progression, consistent training across boroughs, the establishment of training partnerships to reduce vacant course places, and sharing of skills and resources.
A study of London local authorities and the voluntary sector carried out by the unit over the summer highlighted a variability of qualifications and skills. The study found that on average 60 per cent of Connexions staff and 55 per cent of local authority youth work staff were professionally qualified.
