The Youth Future Fears Survey was commissioned by volunteering charity CSV and Tesco as part of their Agents4Change Campaign, which encourages young people to volunteer.
While the survey found debt was the biggest cause of worry, only nine per cent of the 1,200 respondents said they were anxious about binge drinking or sexually transmitted infections.
A spokesperson for debt charity The Consumer Credit Counselling Service said: "Lots of young people are taking on large university debts and astronomical housing costs. In some ways it's a good sign that young people are concerned - at least it shows that they're thinking about debt before getting into it."
