Ofsted intends to introduce single inspections to cover both education and welfare provision. This integrated approach will result in a single inspection report. Ofsted will continue with additional welfare inspections where evidence suggests there is a need for it to do so.
This consultation is aimed at the following providers inspected by Ofsted: maintained boarding schools; maintained and non-maintained special schools that offer boarding or residential provision; independent boarding schools; and children's homes that offer education.
Views are sought from the staff and children and young people at these schools, as well as their parents and stakeholder groups such as the Boarding Schools Association. The consultation does not concern independent schools that are members of associations inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate. Responses will help inform the methods and processes that will be set up for single inspections of welfare and education.
