Work-based learning: Alliance to aim for more placements

Connexions chief executives met representatives from the council and the Department for Education and Skills to present their findings, gathered from most partnerships at the end of last year (YPN, 4-10 January, p2).

The council's director of learner support, Trevor Fellowes, said he was concerned that the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) remains at about 180,000.

"The work we are doing jointly with Connexions is to unpick the total number of NEETs and determine what factors are preventing particular groups from participating, in order that we can take specific action to counter them," said Fellowes.
