Wimbledon centre receives revamp

1 min read Youth Work
A state-of-the-art youth centre in south London has reopened its doors after a refit.

The John Innes Youth Centre in Wimbledon has been refurbished and is now home to Kingston and Wimbledon YMCA's "alternative curriculum" for young people.

The centre boasts a skills academy and music room to offer learning in a different environment for 14- to 16-year-olds who struggle at school.

In the music room, 11- to 17-year-olds can learn an instrument, DJ or try mixing without having to learn theory or pay for formal lessons.

Pupils who respond better to vocational styles of learning can be referred to the scheme by their secondary school. As a result of the scheme's success the YMCA is now an approved alternative curriculum provider for the London Borough of Merton.
