
The U-Mix Centre, which caters for seven- to 19-year-olds, is owned by Sheffield City Council but managed by FURD, which is based in the city.
Local young people have been involved in its design, which includes floodlit five-a- side football pitches, outdoor play equipment, a dance studio, a music rehearsal room, a recording studio, a prayer room and a digital media suite.
The centre is also home to an archive of information about the UK’s first black professional footballer Arthur Wharton.
Simon Hyacinth, FURD's joint co-ordinator, said U-Mix will be used by hundreds of young people.
“Like many city centres, Sheffield can be territorial for young people," he said.
