But recent changes to national performance indicators and the information councils must submit could mean a gap in useful data around children's services.
"The recent changes to the National Indicator Dataset and the Single Data List mean there is a potential gap in the provision of reliable data around children's services, in a format that allows local authorities to assess their own performance on key indicators," explains Simon Rutt, head of statistics at the National Foundation for Educational Research and C4EO's data lead.
Under a new model for sector-led improvement, C4EO has been commissioned by the Children's Improvement Board to provide local authorities with a set of profiles that will allow them to compare their performance with other similar authorities.
