As part of work commissioned by the Children's Improvement Board, the organisation is in the process of creating new local authority profiles to help councils compare performance. C4EO has consulted widely with the sector and the latest set of profiles is due to be published in the coming weeks.
One of a number of key performance indicators that is likely feature is the breakdown of GCSE results by gender, says Simon Rutt, head of statistics for the National Foundation for Educational Research and C4EO's data lead.
Results from the 2011 exams seem to show that the gender gap for top grades is increasing.
