The move is part of a major restructure, which could see 400 jobs lostcouncil-wide. But the 20 children's services posts could be axed thisyear from its 618-strong department.
Michael O'Connor, Westminster Council's strategic director for childrenand young people, said: "It is anticipated 20 posts will no longer berequired but none of these will be frontline."
But councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, leader of the council's Labour group,branded O'Connor's comments as "the standard response to cuts".
He added: "Our concern is that the loss of 20 jobs will impact onchildren's services. Frontline staff have to rely heavily on back officestaff."
